M-55 "Geophysica" 1/72 ModelSvit 72055
M-55 "Geophysica" - plastic model kit of a subsonic high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft in 1/72 scale ModelSvit 72055
The Soviet subsonic reconnaissance aircraft M-55 Geophysics was developed as a response to the American U-2 reconnaissance aircraft. After the American plane was shot down, Soviet designers tried to copy the U-2 and create their own aircraft with similar flight characteristics. Work began in the late 60s at the Design Bureau of V. M. Myasishchev. The purpose of creating such an aircraft was to intercept high-altitude reconnaissance balloons, which were regularly launched by American intelligence services and flew considerable distances deep into the territory of the USSR.
The first copy was ready only in the early 80s. At the time of the creation of the finished copy, the need to intercept American balloons was no longer required, so the decision was made to create a high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft based on the M-17. The new reconnaissance aircraft M-55 "Geophysics" made its first flight in the second half of the 80s. A two-seat training version of the aircraft was immediately created. A total of 5 units were built. Currently one aircraft is in operation.
The model has a high level of detail and is designed for experienced modelers.
